Newport, - Harriet Coleman Smith, 91, of 398 Bellevue Avenue Newport, formerly of 21 Gilroy Street, Newport, died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late William Bert Smith. Born in Newport, RI on March 15, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Frank Kennet Coleman and the late Rose Hilda Mawson Coleman. Mrs. Smith was a 1930 graduate of Rogers High School. She worked at the Newport Torpedo Station until she entered the United States Navy in 1942. At the end of the War she and her husband moved to Texas and opened an Insurance and Real Estate Company, until the passing of her husband in 1972 when she moved back home to Newport. She is survived by two brothers Joseph K Coleman of Bradenton, FL, and Harry A Coleman of Newport, RI, a sister Ellen C Nixon of Devils Lake, ND, and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by a brother Frank E Coleman, two sisters Emma Coleman and Edith H Buckley.A Memorial service will be held later this summer.Donations may be made in her memory to the Emmanuel Church Capital Campaign, 42 Dearborn Street, Newport, RI 02840.Arrangements are by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
