Harriet Elizabeth Mccaffrey

Middletown, RI - Harriet Elizabeth (Perkins) McCaffrey, 94, formerly of Prospect Avenue, Middletown, RI, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Grand Islander Center.She was the wife of the late Albert Joseph McCaffrey. Born in Newport, RI on December 5, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Caroline V. (Holanetz) Perkins.Mrs. McCaffrey graduated from Rogers High School and Katherine Gibbs School. She worked for a Providence law firm before she was married. For many years she worked as the Guidance Clerk at Middletown high School. During that time she spearheaded the Middletown Dollars for Scholars Program. She was a communicant of St. Lucy's Church and an avid reader who enjoyed local history. She also volunteered for the Middletown Historical Society. She is survived by her sons Albert William McCaffrey and his wife Sandra of Bloomington, MN, Dr. Charles Francis McCaffrey and his wife Diane of Portsmouth, RI, Dr. John Thomas McCaffrey and his wife Kathleen of Middletown, RI, her daughter Carolyn Margaret Ratermann and her husband Charles of St. Charles, MO, her sister Carolyn Howell of Portsmouth, RI, six grandchildren John, Ryan and Neil McCaffrey, Shane and Timothy McCaffrey and Karrie Helmer and one great grandchild Isaac.She was the sister of the late William Perkins.
