Newport, RI - Harriett Mae Rice Langstaff, 79, of 87 Girard Avenue, Newport, RI, died peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2009, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Charles Ruben Langstaff and the mother of the late Charles R. Langstaff, Jr. Born in Elmira, NY on December 19, 1929, she was the daughter of the late George and Minnie Burdick Rice. Though Mrs. Langstaff intermittently worked various jobs, her main priority in life was her position of devoted mother and housewife. Prior to her death Mrs. Langstaff expressed wished to maintain positive memories she shared with all. Nothing made her happier than hearing the laughter of her family especially that of a child. She is survived by her children Connie L. Wagner of Middletown, RI, Carolyn Messier of Middletown, RI, Curtis G. Langstaff, Sr., of Pompano Beach, FL, Cathleen Morrison of Bristol, RI, Cynthia Langstaff of Middletown, RI, Colleen Santos of Portsmouth RI and Christopher R. Langstaff of Orlando, FL, twenty three grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren, her sister Jacquelyn Vanderpool, her brother Robert Rice both of Elmira, NY and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her extended family of Ahepa Apartments on Girard Avenue in Newport.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at 8:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am, in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport.Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, from 4-8, in the funeral home. Donations in her memory may be made to Visiting Nurse Services, Hospice, Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
