Harry A. Hargrove, 94, of Newport died Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center of Newport, RI. Born on April 9, 1920 in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late Ollie Allen Hargrove and Catherine (McLeod) Hargrove. Mr. Hargrove grew up in Newport on Warner Street then moved to Middletown. As a young man he worked at Adionoff's until WWII. He served in the United States Army during WWII in Africa, Italy and Normandy, receiving the Purple Heart. Upon his return he started work for Cozy Cab and on the Newport Naval Base in the maintenance department. Harry enjoyed time on his boats over the years.He is survived by his sister Esther Hargrove of Newport, his nephew Stephen Hargrove of Portsmouth, and his niece Linda Huffmaster of Florida, and many more nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Douglas Hargrove, Joseph Hargrove, William Hargrove, Donald Hargrove and Roger Hargrove.A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at 11:00AM in Newport Memorial Park, Howland Avenue, Middletown, RI.Donations in his memory may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
