Harry Leonard, 72, of Portsmouth, RI, died at home on December 19, 2024 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Linda (Braley) Leonard.
Born in Newport, RI on November 30, 1952, he joined the USAF as a young man. He completed the Military Police training while in the Air Force and found his calling in Law Enforcement. After active duty, Harry took a position in the Portsmouth Police Department where he proudly served for the next 25 years. During his career he served as the community DARE officer and retired as Sgt Detective. Not one to sit around, he took a position at the Naval War College in the security department, and enjoyed the last several years working on the Base. Harry is a life member of the Tiverton VFW. In the summer months, Harry was a diligent caretaker for his lawn, and enjoyed gardening or helping his daughters with maintenance at their own homes.
Harry is survived by his wife Linda (Braley) Leonard of Portsmouth, his daughters Rachel Leonard of Portsmouth, Yvonne Dimech of Warwick, and Cassandra Dimech and her husband Andrew Parkinson of Warwick, and Harry's best friend, his 9 year old grandson Gavin Parkinson. He also leaves a sister Lorraine Sawyer and her husband Jamie of Tiverton and a brother in law Mark Sweat of Portsmouth.
Harry is preceded in death by two sisters, Debbie Sweat and Esther Leonard.
A Celebration of Life will be announced in the future.
