Harry Ray Clancey, Jr

Harry Ray Clancey, Jr., 71, of 20 Toppa Boulevard, Newport, RI, died Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Newport Hospital. He was diagnosed with Parkinsons disease in March, 1984. He struggled for 22 years with Parkinsons at home and 4 years at the John Clarke Nursing Center. He was the loving husband of A. Claire Walsh Clancey.Born in Newport, RI on November 25, 1938, he was the son of the late Harry R. and Mildred Bishop Clancey.Ray was a 1956 graduate of Rogers High School and then attended the Worcester Academy Prep School until April, 1957. He served in the United States Air Force in the 4th Air Police Squadron at Seymore Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Ray came home and served on the Newport Police Department for 21 years, retiring in 1983. He was a communicant of St. Josephs Church, a member of the Newport Police Relief Association, the FOP Lodge 8, the Newport Historical Society, the Preservation Society, the Newport Museum of Irish History, the Newport Irish Heritage Association, and a former member of the Trinity Church Choir. Ray was active in the Newport Cub Scout Pack #3 and Little League while his sons were involved. He was an avid reader, gardener, and life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox and Celtics.Besides his wife of 46 years, he is survived by his sons H. Ray Clancey III, and his wife, Karin, of Middletown, RI, and Michael Patrick Clancey, and his wife, Christine, of Narragansett, RI, his sister Myrna, and husband, James R. Bruner, Captain, USN Ret. of Greenville, NC, and nephews Robert, and wife, Margaret Bruner of Chesapeake, VA., Richard Bruner of NC, and Jeffrey Bruner of Bedford, TX. He was a loving grandfather to his 6 grandchildren: Brendan, Jack, Reilly, Erin, Liam, and Aidan Clancey. He is also survived by sister-in-law Helen T. Pattison, and husband, Eugene R. Pattison, USN deceased of Portsmouth, RI, niece, Katie, and husband Thomas Jenkins, of Middletown, RI, and nephew, Eugene Bob Pattison, and wife, Becky, of Riverside, RI. He is also the great-uncle to seven grand nieces and one grand nephew.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, from 4-7pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. His funeral will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at 9:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport.
