Harry Wayne Beaumont, 71, of Newport died at Newport hospital in the arms of his wife, daughter and grandson on Monday, June 1, 2015, after a short battle with brain cancer. Born on April 14, 1944 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Eugene E. and Pearl M. (Hofstetter) Beaumont. Harry attended Pittsburgh schools and graduated from The Pittsburgh Perry High School. He served in the US Navy from 1965-1969 as a machinist mate aboard the USS Moale. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he remained in Newport, met and married the love of his life Lorraine (Coute) and just recently celebrated 46 happy years together. They had one daughter, Tiffany Beaumont Worthen who was the true meaning of Daddy's girl. He was the best husband, father and grandfather we could ask for. He owned and operated a lobster boat for a few years and later became a welder/ship fitter and worked at Newport Ship Yard. He later worked for defense contractors, Transcom and finally Raytheon for 30 years until his retirement in1989. He recently worked for the Newport Yachting Center where he enjoyed greeting all the concert goers and working with the staff there. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #265 since 1969. He was a warm, gentle and generous man who treated everyone he met with a warm smile. He was an animal lover, and there was never a time that he didn't have one or more in his home. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to tropical resorts, most recently California, and he especially enjoyed many stays at The Disney World Resort in Florida. He was always very active at home, gardening with his wife, and was part of the Secret Garden Tour for the past 4 years. The highlight of his garden was his Koi Pond and he delighted in answering all the questions from the many visitors who made the tour. He was known as someone you could take most anything broken item to and he would fix it. He enjoyed a good game of pool, and was at one time a member of the Brick Alley Pub Pool team. He also enjoyed all music, especially old blues recordings. He loved Newport and enjoyed the beautiful bay that surrounds it. His biggest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Besides Lorraine, his wife of 46 years, he is survived by his daughter Tiffany Worthen and her husband John of Newport, his brother Eugene Beaumont, Jr. of Pittsburgh, his beloved grandchildren, Jonathan Janis and Teagan Worthen both of Newport, and several nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2015, from 4-7 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Services will be held on Monday, June 8, 2015, with visitation from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, and the memorial service to follow at 10:00 am at Memorial Funeral Home.
