Middletown, RI - Hazel F. Sullivan Morris, 87, of 303 Valley Road, Blenheim Assisted Living, Middletown, formerly of Newport and Barrington, RI, died Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Robert Lewis Morris. Born in Somerville, MA on September 11, 1917, she was the first child of the late Charles Murdock Sullivan and Lillie Beatrice McLean Sullivan. Mrs. Morris moved at an early age to Arlington, MA. She attended Arlington Public Schools, Wheaton College, and The College of Practical Arts and Letters of Boston University, graduating from the latter in 1939 with a BS degree in clothing. She married the late Robert Lewis Morris of Baltimore, Maryland on January 23, 1940 in the Arlington Congregational Church on Pleasant Street, Arlington, then known as the Orthodox Congregational Church. A long time resident of Barrington, RI, she was active in the Barrington Congregational Church, the Barrington Womens Club, the Barrington Garden Club, the PTA, and other civic and social organizations, and served as Cub Scout den mother. She was a charter member of the Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Barrington. She moved to Newport in 1975, attending Trinity Episcopal Church, has been an active member of the Newport Historical Society, the Redwood Library, the Newport Art Museum, the Friends of the Newport Public Library, and of other Newport organizations, and of Rhode Island Chapter ?D? of P.E.O., a national sorority. In 1975, she became a guide at the Newport Restoration Foundation?s ?Samuel Whitehorne Museum of Early Newport Furniture?, and in 1981 became curator of the museum, nationally famous for its collection of Townsend and Goddard furniture. More recently living with her son John E. Morris and his wife Donnal L. Langello in Portmouth RI, for several years before an extended illness and heart problems causing stays at Blenheim Newport, an assisted living facility, the Grand Islander Nursing Home. She is survived by four children Charles Robert Morris of Parker, CO, Barbara Lynn Gray of Portland, OR, John Edward Morris of Portsmouth, RI, and Elizabeth Ann Spahr of Kennebunk, ME. She had six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 8, 2004, at 12:00 PM Noon in Trinity Church, Queen Anne Square, Newport.Donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer?s Association 245 Waterman Street Providence, RI 02906.
