Hedley William Greer

Middletown, RI - Hedley William Greer, 97, of 39 Oak Street Middletown, died Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.He was the husband of the late Carolyn Webber Greer. Born in Newport, RI on April 10, 1907, he was the son of the late Hedley James and Mabel Kessell Greer. Mr. Greer was retired from the Eppley Laboratory Inc. of Newport in 1971 after 43 years. He was senior department head and director of the Radiometry Department. Co-authoring several publications in the design and improvement of Radiometric Instruments. A graduate of Rogers High School class of 1927. He also attended Brown University and Rhode Island State College. A former member of the American Physical Society. He was a charter member of the Middletown Rotary Club, St. Johns #1 Masonic Lodge, Past Commander of Washington Commandary Knights Templers, former member of the Middletown Planning Board and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. He is survived by his sister Mabel G. Allen of Newport, RI, a niece Gail A. Greer of Newport, RI, and several nieces and nephews living in Albuquerque, NM.He was the father of the late Donald W. Greer and Joan W. Greer, and the brother of the late Albert J. Greer and Barbara G. McCarthy. A Memorial service will be held on Monday, December 20, 2004, at 11:00AM, in Calvary United Methodist Church, Turner And Wyatt Roads, Middletown. Burial will follow in Middletown Cemetery.Arrangements are by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
