Helen B. Gonalo, entered into eternal life in Heaven while holding the hands of her beloved daughter, Helen and beloved grandson, Rocky, on the morning of November 30th. She was reunited with the love of her life, John who predeceased her in 2008.Helen was born on July 12, 1924 into the loving family of Joseph and Phoebe Matose. She had two brothers, Joseph and Frank. She resided in Portsmouth her entire life. She worked at the Torpedo Station during World War II and later, was employed by Navy Exchange as a retail manager and seamstress.She met John in 1945, and they were married on November 3rd of that year. They had one child, Helen Steeves of Portsmouth and one grandson, Rocky Steeves of Newport. John and Helen were blessed with a 62 year marriage. They were truly soul mates, enjoying each day together. They traveled often and were known as the Dancing Gonalos. Helen became a Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching games with John, especially when the Sox won the World Series-twice! Their life together was a living example of what love is all about.During the three years after Johns passing, Helen traveled with her daughter to Bermuda and Maine and shared precious, happy, loving moments with her daughter and grandson.Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 6 at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St, Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Patricks Cemetery in Fall River, MA.Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 5 from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.
