Newport, - Helen B. Newman Nunes, 90, of St. Clare Home Newport, formerly of 9 Madison Court, Newport, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at Charlton Memorial Hospital Fall River, MA.She was the wife of the late Joseph George Nunes. Born in Johnston, RI on April 14, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Christine Petersen Newman.Mrs. Nunes was a 1930 graduate of Warwick High School where she was active in sports and played on the Varsity Basketball team and also played at the YMCA. She graduated from Edgewood Secretarial School in Edgewood, RI. Mrs. Nunes worked as a secretary for Federal Products in Providence for 20 years. She is survived by her three granddaughters Lisa Medeiros of Swansea, MA, Jacqueline Humes of Naples, FL, and Michelle C. Buck of Plesant Valley, NY, her step daughter Judith S. Nunes of Naples, FL, her brother Frederick J. Newman of Jamestown, RI, her nephew William N. Bancroft of Vista, NY and her niece Barbara Cryan of Fayetteville, GA.She was the sister of the late Elsie R. Bancroft. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2003, at 10:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a funeral service at 11:00AM, in Trinity Church, Queen Anne Square, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. Donations in her memory my be made to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 2257 Post Road, Warwick, RI 02886.
