Bristol, - Helen C. Cosgrove Brooks, 84, of 1 Dawn Way Bristol, formerly of 35 Eyler Drive, Portsmouth, RI, died Friday, May 30, 2003 at St. Elizabeth Manor Bristol, RI.She was the wife of the late William J. Brooks. Born in Bridgeport, CT on February 28, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Mary Richards Cosgrove.Mrs. Brooks was a resident of Portsmouth for 80 years. She was a postal clerk at the Portsmouth Post Office for 20 years retiring in 1982. Mrs. Brooks was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church. She was a member of the Portsmouth Democratic Womens Club, a former member of the Portsmouth Library Association and a former member of the St. Anthony?s Women?s Club. She is survived by her son Ronald William Brooks of Swampscott, MA, two daughters Elizabeth Anne Brooks of Barrington, RI, Kathleen Cheever of Portsmouth, RI, two brothers Gerald Cosgrove of Indialantic, FL, and Franklin Cosgrove of Albany, CA, her sister Mary Mayes of Somerset, MA, six grandchildren, many nieces nephews and many great nieces and nephews.She was the mother of the late Patricia Brooks, and the sister of the late Charles Cosgrove, Walter Cosgrove, James Cosgrove, Ronald Cosgrove, Rita Costa, Mabel Durkin, Geraldine Emerson and Kathleen Nolan. Her funeral will be held on Monday, June 2, 2003, at 11:00AM from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial at 12:00 PM in St. Barnabas Church, East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
