Newport, RI - Helen Mary Groff Mobbs, 85, of 10 Hunter Avenue Newport, RI, died Friday, February 6, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late John Charles Mobbs. Born in Newport, RI on July 19, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence H. and Mary Mockler Groff. Mrs. Mobbs was a teacher at Sheffield School in Newport, for 20 years, retiring in 1977. She was a graduate of Rhode Island College of Education. Mrs. Mobbs was a life member of the Newport County Retired Teachers Association and the Rhode Island Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Edward King House Senior Citizens Center, the Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation, the Rhode Island Historical Society, the St. Josephs Church Rosary and Altar Society and also a communicant of St. Josephs Church. She is survived by her son David F. Mobbs of North Attleboro, MA, her daughter Mary Ellen Brown of Newport, RI, her sister Katherine E. Mobbs of Norfolk, VA, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.She was the sister of the late Lawrence J. Groff and Thomas L. Groff. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at 8:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 AM in St. Josephs Church, Broadway And Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
