Henry B. Bernstrom

Portsmouth, RI- Harry B. Bernstrom, 85, of Portsmouth, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the Newport Hospital in Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Dolores (Kaiser) Bernstrom.Born in Providence, RI, on November 18, 1928, he was the son of the late Harry W. and Florence E. (Glines) Bernstrom. A longtime Portsmouth resident, Mr. Bernstrom worked as the evening editor of the Providence Journal for over 30 years. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was an avid golfer and accomplished Bridge player. He is survived by his step son, Brooks Hawkins of Tiverton, RI, two nieces, Melissa Bernstrom and Betsy Bernstrom, both of KY, his granddaughter BrookLynne Hawkins of Tiverton RI and his grandson Gavin James Megley, of Middletown, RI. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Bernstrom. Private Burial will be held at Princess Hill Cemetery in Barrington.Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice
