Portsmouth, RI ? Henry ?Hank? George Antoni, 86, of 60 Summit Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Monday, April 3, 2006 at Silver Creek Manor, Bristol, RI. He was the husband of the late Mary E. O?Brien Antoni who died in 1982, and the late Ann A. Gerlach Antoni.Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 14, 1919, he was the son of the late Henry C. and Magdalena Ulmer Antoni.Mr. Antoni had served in the US Navy for a total of 30 years, 23 years active duty and seven years in the Reserves. He retired in 1970 as a Chief Torpedoman and his years in the Navy brought him through WW2, Korea and Viet Nam. Henry was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 19 of Newport, the Sakonnet Sportsman Club, and the Newport Yacht Club. Henry was a member and past commander of the Newport Power Squadron and a member and past treasurer of the Common Fence Point Association. He was an active volunteer with Rhode Island Project Aids, the RI Sunrise House, the Matthew 25 AIDS Ministry, the Amos House and Rhode Island Food Bank. Henry also served on numerous committees for the Walk for Life, the AIDS Quilt RI, and Ritas Pantry. Most recently he was a bus monitor for the Portsmouth Schools. He is survived by sons Henry Salty Antoni Jr. of Providence, RI, Robert Stewkey Antoni of Philadelphia, PA, and stepsons John West of Leominster, MA, Frederick Camera of Carmel, CA, and Eric Camera of San Marcos, CA, a step daughter Ann Marie Camera of Portsmouth, RI, and ten grandchildren Nicholas Antoni of Providence, RI, Joseph Camera of San Marcos, CA, Nathan Camera of San Marcos, CA, Jason Camera of Portsmouth, RI, Shana Martinez of California, Diane West of New Hamsphire, Denise West of Massachusetts, John West of Massachusetts, Tammy Fornari of Massachusetts, and Alison McKenna of Michigan, and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stepon William West, a brother Frederick Antoni, and a sister Helen Russell. His funeral will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2006, at 9:30 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 7, 2006, from 4-7p.m. in the Connors Funeral Home.Memorial donations may be made to AIDS Quilt RI / Annas Workshop, PO Box 2591, Newport, RI 02840.
