Middletown, RI - Henry Joseph Olaynack, 85, of 24 Kay Boulevard, Middletown, RI, formerly of 33 Bliss Road, Newport, died Monday, March 19, 2007 at home. He was the husband of Mary Rieker Olaynack. Born in Newport, RI on September 14, 1921, he was the son of the late Joseph W. and Lottie Gorski Olaynack.Mr. Olaynack was a 1941 graduate of Rogers High School. After high school he served in the United States Army during World War II and received the American Theater Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with three service stars and the World War II Victory Medal. After the service he worked at Quonset Point Naval Station. He later worked for Puerini?s building the Newport Bridge and was a self employed carpenter for 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Newport VFW, the Friendly Sons of Newport Social Club, and the Carpenters Union#176. Henry was a big fan of the New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox, he loved polka music and enjoyed socializing with friends at Billy Goodes and Mels Diner. He was a loving husband, father and proud grandfather. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters Cynthia Marie Gavin of Portsmouth, RI, and Leslie Anne Golden of Middletown, RI, his step daughter Florence Eva Hucks of Little Rock, AK, his sister Florence Niles of Buffalo, NY, and his grandchildren, Casey Marie Gavin, Caitlin Elizabeth Gavin, Christopher Henry Gavin, Courtney Alexandra Gavin, Patrick Sean Golden, Michael Lynn Hucks and Scott Hucks. He was the brother of the late Arthur Olaynack, Joseph H. Olaynack, Caroline Evans and Susan Deglau and the grandfather of the late Hal Lee Hucks. His funeral will be held on Monday, March 26, 2007, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 25, 2007, from 5-8pm in the Memorial Funeral Home. Donations in his memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport Bristol Cos, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, 02871.
