Henry J. Tierno, Jr., 86, of Harvey Road, Middletown, RI, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of Phyllis A. Bonci Braga Tierno and the husband of the late Grace P. Kelly Tierno.Born in Berlin, NJ on February 1, 1926, he was the son of the late Henry J. and Mae Dowdell Tierno.Mr. Tierno was a Master Diver in the US Navy serving during World War II and Korea retiring as a Chief Petty Officer after 28 years of service. He was the owner of the former Grinder Shop and Spaghetti House in Middletown and was also the owner of the former Tiernos Middletown Travel. He was a member and Past President of the Lions Club, a member of the Newport Lodge of Elks #104 and a member of the Newport Bocci League. He was also a private pilot with the Civil Air Patrol out of Newport Airport. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Henry J. Tierno III and his wife Nancy of Middletown, RI, Anthony F. Tierno and his wife Diana of Cranston, RI, Dennis L. Tierno and his wife Judy of Pompano Beach, FL, and Pat Cooper and her husband Ray of Portsmouth, RI; grandchildren, Dennis Carlson, Justin Tierno, Jared Tierno, Stephanie Tierno, Rose Pansa, Grace Tierno, Connor Tierno, Robert Almeida, Karen Almeida, Kelly Silvia and husband Jimmy, Ray Cooper, Jr., and Shannon Cooper; great-grandchildren, Chloe Carlson, Isabel Tierno, Jake and Chase Silvia. Also his step-children, Cynthia Quattrucci and her husband Bob, Charles Braga and his wife Anna, Lynn Fournier and her husband Ray, Marc Braga, Leslie Greene, and Robyn Shea and her husband Michael; step-grandchildren; Madison Jones, Alexandra and Nicholas Braga, Dillon and Collin Fournier, Abby Greene, and Charles and Maggie Shea; and step-great grandchild. He was the brother of the late Francis R. Tierno and his late wife Mildred.His funeral will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 10 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI 02840.
