Newport, RI - Henry Manuel Simas, lovingly known as ?Fred? to his friends and family, 60, of 96 Van Zandt Avenue, Newport, RI, died Friday, July 27, 2007, at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Ann H. Blanchette Simas. Born in Newport, RI, on September 27, 1946, he was the son of the late Manuel and Mary Ferris Simas.Mr. Simas had worked as the maintenance supervisor at the former Treadway in Newport for over 10 years. He had also worked at the Newport Hospital in the store room and as a painter and as a mechanic at Saccucci in Middletown and the former Moitozas Garage in Newport. He was a Communicant of St. Josephs Church. Mr. Simas was also a member of the Newport Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, and wood worker, and also enjoyed painting crafts, archery, cooking and eating. Mr. Simas was also a committed blood donor. Besides his wife he is survived by four sons Henry M. Simas Jr. of Newport, RI, Daniel J. Simas of Woonsocket, RI, Manuel M. Simas of Newport, RI, and Anthony J. Simas of Tiverton, RI, three daughters Mary C. Simas of Newport, RI, Lori A. Grant of Portsmouth, RI, and Valerie A. Simas of Newport, RI, three brothers Manuel Simas Jr. of Middletown, RI, Anthony Simas of Middletown, RI, and Michael Simas of Jacksonville, FL, a sister Frances Benevides of Middletown, RI, and eighteen grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late James Simas.His funeral will be held on Friday, August 3, 2007, at 9:00 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2007, from 6-9 pm in the funeral home.
