Portsmouth, RI - Herbert E. Wood, 90, of 128 Belmont Drive, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Black Point Farm, Portsmouth and Providence, died Thursday, January 24, 2008 at home. He was the husband of Edna Bradley Wood. Born in Amherst, MA, he grew up in Greenfield, MA, where he was active in competitive sports events and received numerous awards, before moving to Providence, RI, where he lived for many years until he moved to Portsmouth, RI.He was the son of the late Ralph and Helen Cadwell Wood and brother of the late Donald C. Wood of Greenfield, MA.He was a veteran of World War II and was in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He studied at the Institute of Music and Science in New York. While in Providence he was the owner of the East Side Piano Exchange. He was a piano technician and consultant and former RI Technicians Guild President. He was also a manager for his wife who was a concert pianist. He was a member oft he Newport Preservation Society and the Newport Art Museum and a former member of the Norman Bird Sanctuary. His funeral will be private.
