Herbert G. Brownell Jr

Middletown, - Herbert G. Brownell Jr., 78, of 25 Phillips Avenue Middletown, died Friday, August 15, 2003 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI. He was the husband of Josephine B.Szelag Brownell. Born in Newport, Rhode Island on May 25, 1925, he was the son of the late Herbert G. and Cora Lake Brownell.Mr. Brownell worked for the Naval War College for thirty-seven years as Facilities Director retiring in 1988 he had also worked for the Naval Hospital for three years. Mr. Brownell was a Founder and Member of the Newport Concert Band and a member of the Salve Regina University Band where he was a Percussionist. Mr. Brownell was a member of the Church of the Holy cross, Middletown and member of the Middletown Senior Center. Mr. Brownell was a graduate of Rogers High School. He was a World War II Navy Veteran having served in the Amphibious forces in the South Pacific, he served in the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He leaves his wife of forty-eight years, Josephine B.Szelag Brownell of Middletown, Rhode Island.Funeral Services and Burial will be Private.Donations in his memory may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals, 87 Oliphant Lane, Middletown, R.I., 02842.Arrangemets by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
