Herbert H. Weida Port. St. Lucie, FL - Herbert H. Weida, 78, of 156 West Caribbean, Port. St. Lucie, FL, formerly of Portsmouth, RI, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at the Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park, FL. He was the husband of Anne E. Snopley Weida. Born in Newark, NJ, on October 7, 1927, he was the son of the late Herbert J. and Helen Chamberlain Weida.Herb was a member of the Newport Elks Lodge 104, and the American Legion Post #318 in Port St. Lucie, FL. Herb was a former member of the North End Club in Middletown, a former associate member of the Portuguese Citizens Club in Portsmouth, and a past member of the Newport Lions.Herb came to Newport in 1943 from New Jersey and worked at the Newport Torpedo Station on Goat Island as a Machinist Helper. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1945 and was honorably discharged in December of 1946. Herb worked at Duce Jewelers where he learned watch and clock repair, the Newport Gas Company, and later at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in Newport where he traveled extensively until retiring in 1989. Herb and his wife Anne moved to Port St. Lucie in August of 2003. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons Herbert R. Weida of Seminole, FL, Richard J. Weida of Portsmouth, RI, and Clifford D. Weida of Middletown, RI, two daughters Suzanne Field of Grovetown, GA, and Nancy A. Weida of Troy, ME, a sister Louise Weida of Bordentown, NJ, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 26, 2007, from 4-7 p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home.
