Portsmouth, RI - Herman J. Andrea, of John Clarke Nursing Home, formerly of 29 Donna Drive, Portsmouth, died on Friday, June 15, 2012 at the home.He was the loving husband of Madeline B. (Medeiros) Andrea also of the home. Born in Newport, RI on August 17, 1919, he was the son of the late Jesse and Mary (Dias) Andrea.Herman graduated from Rogers High School and attended URI receiving a certificate in Mechanical Engineering. After serving in the Navy during World War II and Korea, he worked for NUWC retiring in 1973. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus for several years and gave his service to organizations like Meals on Wheels and St. Vincent de Paul. He also served on the Portsmouth Town Council in the 1990s. He was an active member of St. Barnabas Church for many years giving much of his time. Besides his loving wife of 70 years, he is survived by his daughters, Patricia Warren of Portsmouth, RI, Susan Andrea Rauh of West Dover, VT, his son Peter J. Andrea of Samsung, FL, his beloved grandchildren, Chris Napier, Wendy Bulk, Michael, Kevin and Melanie Warren, Cara ,Terrence and Theodore Rauh ,Travis Holmes, his precious great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his daughter Carol Ann Andrea, his brothers, John, Manuel, Charles and William Andrea and sisters, Mary Rose Cunha and Mary Angel Souza. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, from 4-7pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday June 21, 2012 at 11:00AM in St. Barnabas Church 1697 East Main Rd.
