Herman ?Buddy? Le Roy Jones, Jr., 85, of 600 Valley Road Middletown, RI, formerly of New York City, NY, Rhode Island Avenue and Goat Island, Newport, RI, died Thursday, November 20, 2003 at John Clarke Nursing Center Middletown, RI.Born in New York City, NY on February 13, 1918, he was the son of the late Herman Le Roy and Nellie Womble Jones. Mr. Jones was a veteran of the Navy in World War II. Buddy served in the Pacific Theater including Okinawa as a Seebee. He worked for the Newport Naval Base Fire Department for over 20 years. After his retirement he volunteered for the Newport Fire Department. Mr. Jones was a member of Holy Cross Church in Middletown and the VFW. He was also a member of the New England Association of Fire Chiefs. Mr. Jones was an avid bridge player, and was often found playing table bowling or bingo at John Clarke. He is survived by two nephews Phil Erskine of Half Moon Bay, CA, and Stuart Erskine of Sarasota, Florida and two great nieces Adrienne and Nami Erskine. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth LeRoy Jones. A memorial service will be announced for December in the Chapel at John Clarke Retirement Center. Burial will be private.
