Herschel L. Turner

April 16, 1932 — February 4, 2006

MIDDLETOWN, RI - Herschel L. Turner, 73, of Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI, formerly of 23 King Road Middletown, RI, died February 4, 2006, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Joan B. Gill Turner. Born in Danforth, Maine on April 16, 1932, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Anne Day Turner. Mr. Turner attended Rogers High School in Newport where he was an All New England Basketball player and a All State Football player. He later enlisted in the Army where he served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Turner was an employee of Avica Corporation for 15 years as a welder and retired in 1978. Mr. Turner then worked for Raytheon as a welder for 25 years retiring in 1995. He was a member of, The Middletown Knights of Columbus, The Newport Lodge of Elks, The Middletown VFW, and The North End Club. Mr. Turner was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church. He is survived by his children, Lawrence L. Turner of Fall River, MA, Stephen M. Turner of Portsmouth, RI, Michael H. Turner of West Greenwich, his six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His funeral will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2006, at 8:00AM from the Memorial Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00AM in Jesus Savior Church, Broadway Vernon Avenue, Newport, RICalling Hours will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2006, from 4-7PM in the Memorial Funeral Home.Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown, RI.
