Hope F. Chase of 480 Oliphant Lane, Middletown, died Saturday, February 3, at the John Clarke Retirement Center. She was the wife of the late John F. Chase, Jr.Born in Portsmouth, RI, on August 2, 1913, she was the daughter of Roscoe and Inez Orswell Levens.Mrs. Chase and her husband owned and operated the Tilley Avenue Greenhouses in Newport for many years. Strong in her Christian faith, she was the oldest living member of the Portsmouth Evangelical Friends Church where she was a former organist and Sunday School teacher.She is survived by four sons, Roland F. and Lawrence L., both of Newport; Frederick J. of Middletown; and Gerald F. of Attleboro, MA; and a daughter, Hope L. of Columbia, MD; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her sisters Eunice, Frieda, Esther and Laura and her brother Joseph.Her funeral and celebration of life was held on February 7, in the Portsmouth Evangelical Friends Church, conducted by Pastor Jordan Jacobson. Scripture passages were read by granddaughters Maria Joy Davey and Elizabeth Driver. Burial was in the church cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the Portsmouth Evangelical Friends Church.Arrangements were made by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
