Newport, RI - Hortensia Colas Van Anglen, 89, of Heatherwood Health Care Center, Newport, RI, formerly of 37 Tower Drive, Darien, CT, died Monday, December 11, 2006 at the center. She was the former wife of Chalmers Easton Van Anglen. Born in Havana, Cuba on January 3, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Juan Jose Colas Duany and the late Consuelo Sanchez Hernandez Duany. Mrs. Van Anglen had worked at the Cuban Consulate in New York during WWII as an interpreter and hostess for internal affairs. She was an accomplished pianist and avid Cuban historian. Mrs. Van Anglen was a debutant who had her coming out party in Havana and New York in 1935. She was also a Graduate of Sacred Heart Univeristy. Mrs. Van Anglen was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her sons Stephen A. Van Anglen of Portsmouth, RI and Lance J. Van Anglen of Houston, TX, and her grandchildren, Paul Easton Van Anglen, John D. Van Anglen and April E. Van Anglen. Her funeral services and burial will be private.
