Ida Louise Edie Cappy passed away on July 23, 2011 in Bend, Oregon. She was born December 15, 1923 in South Boston, MA, to Angelo Michael and Sebastiana Camarco Cirignano. Edie married Andrew L. Cappuccio Cappy in Boston on October 26, 1947. They were stationed at various Army facilities over 22 years, from Yokohama, Japan to Washington, DC. Her husband retired as Lt. Colonel. After he retired from the Army, they lived in Cinnaminson, NJ, Lancaster, PA, and Portsmouth, RI. Her beloved husband Andrew passed away in 1995. Edie moved to Bend, Oregon in 2003. Edie is survived by her four children, Michael L. Cappy and his wife Anna, Stephen J. Cappy and fianc Pamela Kandra, Thomas J. Cappy, and Mary E. Cappy and fianc Michael H. Kenfield.She is also survived by her grandchildren: Brenda Gruhn, Stephanie Spencer, Alexandra Cappy, Christina Cappy, Nicholas Cappy, Michelle Cappy, Phillip Cappy, Aston Cappy, Brian Cappy, Patrick Cappy, and by her great grandchildren Sophia, Julliana and Andrew Spencer, and Wyatt Gruhn. She is survived by her sister Victoria Helms and her children, her nieces Susan Gerstley and Tammre Hategan, her nephew George Sandy Cirignano Jr. as well as her two cats Ollie and little Hanz.Edie had an open heart and an open mind, she possessed a positive attitude and a zest for life that brought joy and inspiration to many. She loved adventure, travel, laughter and gatherings with family and friends. Throughout her life she was strong and courageous, even in the face of adversity. She loved to tell stories of her youth, and of their life as an Army wife. Always smiling and quick to put others at ease, she made friends easily. She loved a good game of cribbage. She was kind and generous and had many, many dear friends: Michelina Birrittieri, Maryann Cartabiano, Suzie Buhring, Mary Price, Doris Dunn, Priscilla Steward, and countless others.A memorial mass will be held Sunday, August 14th, 2011 at 1:00pm in St. Marys Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portmsouth, RI. Friends and family are asked to meet at the church.
