Little Compton, - Irene B. DeMello DeSouza, 66, of 50 Swamp Road Little Compton, died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at St. Annes Hospital Fall River, MA.She was the wife of Antone DeSouza Jr. of Little Compton. Born in Little Compton, RI on June 25, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary Carvalho DeMello.Mrs. DeSouza was president and co-owner of the former DeSouza?s Quality Sealcoat, Inc. She worked for 16 years for the State of Rhode Island School Lunch Program and six years for Aramark, in Tiverton until her retirement in 2001. Mrs. DeSouza was an avid square dancer with Grand Squares in Portsmouth. Besides her husband she is survived by two sons Antone DeSouza III of Little Compton, RI, and Frank DeSouza of Fall River, MA, five daughters Barbara Arruda and Carolyn Machado both of Fall River, MA, Cheryl Cady of Little Compton, RI, Sharon Doxsee of Tiverton, RI, and Cindy Gifford of Little Compton, RI, fifteen brothers and sister Mae Wright of Fall River, MA, Alice Shaw of North Kingstown, RI, Clara Medeiros of Fall River, MA, John DeMello New Bedford, MA, Dorothy Gordon, ME, Theresa Jusseaume Tiverton, RI, Evelyn Lewis , FL, Manuel DeMello of Tiverton, RI, Beverly Mello of Fall River, MA, Joseph DeMello of Tiverton, RI, George DeMello of Fall River, MA, Margaret Atkinson of Tiverton, RI, Patricia Mello of Fall River, MA, Katherine McGreedy of Fall River, MA and Edward DeMello of Tiverton, RI, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.She was the mother of the late Manuel Arruda and the grandmother of the late Frank DeSouza Jr. and William Mello. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2003, at 10:00AM, in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery in Westport.Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital, 1 St. Jude Place Building, PO Box 1000 Dept. 300, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Little Compton Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 552, Little Compton, RI 02837.
