Irene Liiv

MIDDLETOWN, RI - Liiv, Irene, 98, died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the Grand Islander Center in Middletown. She was the wife of the late professor of Northern European History, Otto Liiv, PhD. Born in Tartu, Estonia, she was the daughter of the late Theodor and Rosalie Otsing Vedler.A language librarian and published translator, she received her Library Science degree from the University of Missouri in 1952 and joined Columbia University, retiring to Newport 25 years later. She is survived by her son, H. Henry Liiv and daughter-in-law Tiina M Liiv, of Middletown, granddaughter Karin E. Liiv of Newport and grandson A. Mark Liiv of San Francisco, CA, and predeceased by granddaughter Ingrid K. Liiv. Funeral and burial arrangements will be private. Memorial donations may be made to RI Chapter of the American Red Cross.
