Middletown, - Irving Champion, 93, of 15 Aquidneck Drive Middletown, RI, died Saturday, August 2, 2003 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI. He was the husband of the late Helen S. Chase Champion. Born in Newport, RI on August 1, 1910, he was the son of the late George E. and Edna L. Fish Champion. Mr. Champion was a Truck driver with CD trucking company for many years, he had worked for the Newport Naval Base during World War II. Mr. Champion had been a partner with TC Radio. He had owned various gas stations in the Newport and Middletown area. Mr. Champion had also worked for Raytheon as a Electronics Tester for ten years retiring in 1976. He is survived by two sons Andrew E. Champion of Middletown, RI, and Ronald W. Champion Sr. of North Kingstown, RI, his daughter Lynn Brocker of Cape Coral, FL, his sister Ruth Locke of Newport, RI, eight grandchildren and nineteen greatgrandchildren.He was the brother of the late Sydney T. Champion and Shirley Tolderlund. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at 10:30AM in Holy Cross Church, 1439 West Main Road, Middletown.Burial will take place in Union Cemetery, Portsmouth.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Cross Church, 1439 West Main Road, Middletown, RI 02842.Arrangements are by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
