Isabelle M. Bailey

Isabelle M. "Bella" (Gardella) Bailey, 78, of Middletown died Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She is the wife of William S. Bailey Jr. of Middletown. Born August 15, 1934 in Haverhill, MA, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Delia (Sasner) Gardella. Mrs. Bailey grew up in Haverhill and attended Westbrook College in Maine. She began her working career at Westinghouse Electric in Massachusetts then for a retailer in Boston as a buyer. Bella married William in 1959 and she moved to Rhode Island and began work as an Administrative Assistant for Pacific Oil. When she began her family, Bella stayed at home for her sons William and Lawrence. Soon after they were grown she went back to work for several retailers as a bookkeeper, including K-Mart and Sears, as well as several years working with her husband for the Newport Propane Company. Bella enjoyed cooking for her family and decorating cakes. In recent years, she loved nothing more then spending time with her granddaughters reading books, playing games, and giving hugs and kisses. In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by her sons, William Bailey III and his wife Brenda of Portsmouth, RI and Lawrence Bailey and his wife Michelle of Middletown, RI, her granddaughters, Katelyn Isabelle Bailey and Meghan Michelle Bailey, her brother Charles Gardella and his wife Priscilla of Meredith, NH and her sister Charlotte Taylor and her husband Richard of Birmingham, AL, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on, Sunday, November 25 from 4:00-8:00pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Her funeral will be held on Monday, November 26 at 11am, in St. Columba Berkley Memorial Chapel, 55 Vaucluse Avenue, Middletown. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery, Turner and Wyatt Road.
