Tiverton, RI - Ivy Whitworth Brierley, 98, of Sakonett Bay Manor, Tiverton, RI, formerly of Sprague Street, Portsmouth, RI, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006. She was the wife of the late William Charles Brierley. Born in Fall River, MA on June 2, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Seaman Whitworth.Mrs. Brierley graduated from the Anthony School in Portsmouth and Rogers High School. After her graduation she attended Pembroke College then Rhode Island College of Education. She was a teacher in nearly every school in Portsmouth from grade 1 thru 6. Ivy also worked as a reporter for the Newport Daily News and the Fall River Herald. Mrs. Brierley was a member of the Senior Chorus at the Portsmouth Senior Center and a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. She was very active with the Portsmouth Senior Center. Ivy enjoyed playing cards and had a regular group she played with. She is survived by her son William and his wife Linda Brierley of Williamstown, VT, her sister Gladys Littlefield of Jersey Shore, PA, and her grandson Wade Chandler Brierley of Portsmouth, RI. She was the grandmother of the late Jill Elizabeth Brierley. Her funeral will be held on Monday, April 10, 2006, at 10:00a.m. in St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 2679 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River following the service.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2006, from 4-7p.m. in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.
