James "Jamie" Basinger Hawes, 58, of Middletown and Bristol, RI, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at St. Elizabeth's Manor in Bristol, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.He was the loving son of the late Capt. George and Garnie Hawes and proud father of Brian Hawes and Dr. Jenny Cho.A graduate of Middletown High School, Jamie worked as a mechanic at the former George Ray's Auto and as a manager of Paradise Farm, where he and his family raised Registered Polled Herefords. For many years he was an active member of the Middletown Rotary.Jamie may be best remembered for his lively wit, his tenaciously positive attitude and his great love of family. He was also a lifelong friend of the Peckham Brothers and the Bulk family.In addition to his children, Jamie leaves a sister, Mrs. David Stapleton, and a brother, Mason Hawes, both of Middletown; a grandson, Connor Cho of Kansas City; and nephews and nieces Tyler Stapleton, Garnie Cory, Heather Murphy, Cameron Hawes, Clayton Hawes and Molly Hawes.The family will observe private services. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Jamie's memory may be made to either the activities fund or the animals' care at St Elizabeth's Manor, where he was cared for graciously.
