Portsmouth, RI - James D. Berry, Jr., 98, of 34 Aquidneck Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died on Monday, January 11, 2016, at Mary Immaculate Health Care Service, Lawrence, MA.He was the husband of the late Myrtle (Peckham) Berry. Born in Newport, RI on February 26, 1917, he was the son of the late James D. and Harriet (Goulding) Berry.Mr. Berry worked at Raytheon and the Torpedo Station on the Newport Naval Base, among other places, as a Senior Metrology Engineer until retiring in 1979. He was a member of the St. John's Masonic Lodge in Portsmouth, RI and was a 33rd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the Odd Fellow of Portsmouth, RI, the Newport Chapter 5, the NCT, a Masonic Camping organization, and was a past master of the Aquidneck grange. He is survived by his sons, James Berry III and his wife Torry, of Las Vegas, NV, Donald Berry of Middletown, RI, his grandchildren, Lisa Driscoll, Adam Berry, Sarah White Timothy Berry, and his great grandchildren, Allana, Brandon, Bryant, Kayden, Tyler, Olivia and Gabriel.He was the brother of the late Helen Berry and Nancy, and the grandfather of the late Laura Berry. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016, from 10:00am to 12:30pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by his service at 12:45.Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.
