James E. Ensminger

James Edward Ensminger, 59, of 428 Gibbs Ave, Newport, RI, died Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Mass General Hospital, Boston, MA. He was the husband of the late Phyllis Marie Martel Ensminger.Born in Hershey, PA on July 10, 1950, he was the son of the late John and Ethel Light Ensminger, Sr.James was a 1968 graduate of Annville-Cleona High School in Annville, PA and a 1972 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsyvania. James served in the US Peace Corps for two years in Iran. In 1981 he returned to school to pursue his interest in ocean sciences. He completed a BS from Florida Institute of Technology, an MS in Ocean Engineering from URI in 1989 as well as an MS in Computer Science from URI in 1992. He worked for the US Navy for over 25 years in submarine service. James was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa.He is survived by his brothers Ronald Ensminger of Lebanon, PA , and John Ensminger of Ephrata, PA, and sisters Barbara A. Carmichael of Lebanon, PA, and Susan M Deiling of Hummelstown, PA, and 10 nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 22 from 7-9pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
