James E. Harvey, Jr

Newport, RI - James E. Harvey, Jr., 72, of 87 Van Zandt Avenue, Newport, RI, died Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Kathleen Virginia Cobb Harvey. Born in Lexington, VA on September 3, 1934, he was the son of the late James E. and Lucy Wares Harvey.Mr. Harvey was a commercial fisherman for 27 years. While working on the boat he cooked and was a mechanic. He also owned and operated Harveys Floor and Maintenance, was a counselor for the McKinney Shelter and most recently was a parking lot attendant at the Harborside Inn. Mr. Harvey volunteered a lot of his time to doing community work in Newport. He loved cooking and was also a mechanic. Besides his wife he is survived by his son James Harvey of Washington, DC, his brother Leon Harvey of Lexington, VA, his sister Cynthia Harkins of Ft. Washington, MD and nine grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, March 2, 2007, at 1:00pm in New Beginnings Praise and Worship Center, 7 Central Street, Newport. Burial will be private.
