Fort Myers , FL - James E. Soares, 66, of Fort Myers, FL, died Friday, December 15, 2006 at Shellpoint Pavillion Hospital, Ft. Myers, FL. He was the husband of Carol Jackson Soares. Born in Newport, RI on October 6, 1940, he was the son of the late Antone M. and Clara Pacheco Soares. James and his wife Carol have been friends their whole life. They have been together for nearly 50 years, and married for 45 years. Early in his career he worked for Electric Boat in Groton, CT and Quincy, MA. He later began a career at Raytheon in Portsmouth where he and his wife Carol both worked for over 35 years. James retired in 2001 as a Program Manager, and his career brought him and his family all over the globe. He was also an avid gun collector and a former member of the Tiverton Rod and Gun Club. He recently retired as President of the Waters Edge II Association and board member of MLG Associates in Fort Myers.In addition to his wife Carol, his is survived by two daughters Melissa Miller of Portsmouth, RI, and Kristen Pal of Warwick, RI, and three grandchildren Jordyn Payne, Kaitlyn Pal, and Shannon Woods-Ventura. He is also survived by his brother Anthony Soares of Ft. Worth, TX and sister Jo-ann Souza of Tiverton, RI.His funeral will be held on Thursday, December 21, at 10:00am in Connors Funeral Home 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Portsmouth Cemetery in Portsmouth. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Dec. 20 from 5-8pm in the Connors Funeral Home.
