Tiverton, - James Edward Miranda, 94, of Sakonnet Bay Manor Tiverton, RI, formerly of 1114 Middle Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Thursday, October 16, 2003 at Village House Newport, RI.He was the husband of the late Kathryn Louise Ryan Miranda. Born in Portsmouth, RI on August 14, 1909, he was the son of the late Manuel and Mary Pacheco Miranda. Mr. Miranda was a veteran of World War II. He retired from the government in 1972 after 32 years as a hoist and portable engineer. He was a member of the VFW Alvero E Viera Post in Portsmouth, RI, the Portuguese American Club and the K of C. He had been named trustee of St. Barnabas Church. He had been appointed to the first committee on elderly housing in Portsmouth. He is survived by four sons James E. Miranda Jr. of Orange Beach, AL, Joseph M. Miranda of Phoenix, AZ, John E. Miranda of Clayton, NC, and Jay F. Miranda of Middletown, RI, his daughter Jane Thomas of Middletown, RI, his brother Arthur Miranda of Anaheim, CA, his sister Mary Kunz of Portsmouth, RI, fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.He was the brother of the late Alfred Miranda, Clara Bestoso and Alice Papino.His funeral will be held on Monday, October 20, 2003, at 9:00 AM from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
