James Evans Essery

Portsmouth, - James Evans Essery, 56, of 86 Wapping Road, Portsmouth, died Friday, January 10, 2003 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.He was the husband of Donna Mastroianni Essery. Born in Minneapolis, MN on November 28, 1946, he was the son of Max E. Essery of Santa Ana, CA, and the late Myrtle Loken Essery. Mr. Essery worked since 1985 as an engineer for Electric Boat. He was a veteran of the US Navy, retiring after 20 years as Lt. Commander. He served in the submarine service in Groton, CT as well as DSRV Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle in San Diego, CA. He was a graduate of Mt. Miguel High School in San Diego, CA, and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, graduating with a BS in Computer Science. He was a Harley enthusiast and belonged to HOG AMA. He was also a member of the Newport Rifle Club, the Fleet Reserve Association, and the Newport Management Association. He was a country music enthusiast as well as Country Dance instructor on Aquidneck Island and Fall River, MA. Besides his wife and father he survived by two sons Max Essery of Middletown, RI, and Derek Essery of Tiverton, RI, two daughters in-law Dawn Essery of Tiverton, RI, and Alicia Essery of Middletown, RI, one grandson Samuel Evans of Middletown, RI, one brother Steven Essery of Santa Ana, CA, and one sister Janet Gallivan of Riverside, CA. His funeral will be held Thursday, January 16, 2003 at 11:30am in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown. Donations may be made in his memory to American Cancer Society, Centralized Memorial Processing Center, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA, or to the American Lung Association, 1740 Broadway, New York, NY 10014..
