James G. Kelly

James G. Kelly, 72, of Cottontail Drive, Portsmouth, RI, passed away at home on Monday, November 23, 2015.He was the beloved husband of 32 years to Jayne E. (Sabra) Kelly.Born in Baltimore, MD on June 18, 1943, he was the son of the late James Kelly and Jane Sheppard.Mr. Kelly received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1964 from Johns Hopkins University, his M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1966 from Brown University and his pre-Ph.D. from the Moore School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Kelly was employed with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), Newport, RI for 40 years retiring as Senior Science and Technology Manager in 2006. He continued with his engineering career consulting as Principal Scientist with Rite Solutions, Inc. Mr. Kelly was an avid tennis player and was a 40 year member of the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport. He most especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.In addition to his wife, Jayne, he is survived by his children, Christian (Jamie) Kelly, Jill (Troy) Watson and Micaela (Kiley) Mack; his grandchildren, Hunter, Parker, Cole, Zach, Jaxon, Finn, Charlie and Leo; his siblings, Jeannie Lombardi, Michael (Mary Jayne) Kelly and Kevin (Maria) Kelly; his mother-in-law, Eliza Sabra; his brother-in-law, Steven (Bernadette) Sabra; and several nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 27, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.His funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Tennis Hall of Fame, 194 Bellevue Ave, Newport, RI 02840.
