Newport, RI - James P. Caldwell, 74, of 21 Bayview Avenue, Newport, RI, died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at South County Hospital, Wakefield, RI.He was the husband of Betty Lou Tinsley Caldwell. Born in Mitchellsburg, KY on June 29, 1935, he was the son of the late Jackson and Mabel Caldwell.Mr. Caldwell served 21 years in the Navy serving in Vietnam, retiring in 1970 as CPO. After the service he worked for Newport Shipyard, Viking Tours Bus Company and Newport Furniture. He was a member of the Stone Mill Masons Lodge #3 ANFM, CBC and the Fleet Reserve. Beside his wife of 56 years, he is survived by his children, James P. Caldwell, Jr. of Culpepper, VA, Bettina Caldwell of Raleigh, NC, Jeffrey L. Caldwell and Renee Caldwell both of Newport, RI, Terrance Caldwell of Tiverton, RI, Dainard Caldwell of Anchorage, Alaska and Lance Caldwell of Newport, RI, his brothers Robert Caldwell of Danville, KY and Joseph Caldwell of Lexington, KY, his sisters Mae Walker of Danville, KY and Betty Barleston of Frankfort, KY, fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Charles Caldwell, John Henry Caldwell, Rose Walker, George Caldwell and Catherine Caldwell.His funeral will be held on Monday, May 24, 2010, at 11:00am, in Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport.Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2010, from 6:30--9 in the Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport. Donations in his memory may be made to Community Baptist Church, Building Fund, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport, RI 02840.
