Newport, RI - Jane F. (Cochrane) Toppa, 84, of Newport, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Silver Creek Manor Bristol, RI. Born in Newport, RI on May 2, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Blanchard W. Cochrane and Florence (Viveiros) Cochrane. Mrs. Toppa was a lifelong Newporter. She worked for many years as a Greeter at Walmart. She enjoyed Find - A - Word and Jigsaw puzzles, riding around the "Ocean Drive" feeding the birds. Jane loved her dogs Mindy and Zach. She is survived by her long-time companion, Leo LaChance of Newport, RI, her children, George Toppa of Newport, RI, Gussie Toppa of Warwick, RI, Tony Toppa, John Toppa and Joey Toppa all of Newport, RI, Jimmy Toppa of Portsmouth, RI, Mary Jane Zilinger of Newport, RI, twin daughters Marie Halton and Maureen Donovan of Newport, RI, and Tina Doyle of Warwick, RI, her brother Leon Cochrane of Utah, her sisters Florence Sousa, of Massachusetts, and Betty Nichols of Newport, RI, many grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.She was the grandmother of the late Jason Donovan and the sister of the late Alice Noonan, Barbara Dopart, Blanchard Cochrane and John Cochrane.Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 12 2013, from 9-11am, in the Memorial Fuenral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Her funeral will follow at 11am, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
