Jane Marie Alvernes-Halliday, 71, of Portsmouth, RI, passed away at home on June 21, 2024. She was the wife of the late Robert A. Halliday.
Born in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Woehrle) Alvernes.
Jane was a graduate of Middletown High School, and later dedicated herself to her work as a housekeeper at the Grand Islander Nursing Home in Middletown. Jane's compassion extended beyond her professional life as she warmly cared for all people and animals, embodying a spirit of acceptance and love towards everyone she encountered. Her innate sense of humor brought joy to those around her, and she was known for being a second mom to not only her own children but also to their friends.
A hard worker who was always willing to lend a helping hand, Jane touched the lives of many with her kindness. She leaves behind a legacy of selflessness and unwavering support for her family and friends.
Jane is survived by her children; Joshua Halliday, of Portsmouth, Robert (Brenda) Halliday, of Swansea, MA, James (Corissa) Halliday, of Fall River, MA, Amanda (David) Ferreira, of Fall River, MA, Laura (Byron) Powell, of FL, and her siblings; Joseph Alvernes, of Tiverton, Jeffrey (Debra) Alvernes, of Little Compton, Jill St. Ours, of Tiverton, Jude (William) Nagle, of VT, Jerilyn (Angelo) Colon Gardner, of Jacksonville, FL, and Jacquelyn DeMello, of Portsmouth.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 PM, with a Prayer Service at 6:00 PM, in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
