Jean Elizabeth Kriner

Jean Elizabeth (Dewick) Kriner, 85, of Newport, RI, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Newport Hospital surrounded by her family. Born on January 19, 1928 in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late Charles Philip and Agnes Anne (Owen) Dewick. She was the wife of 52 years to Joseph Charles Kriner, Sr. Jean was a 1947 graduate of the Household Nursing Association where she worked as a nurse at Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick, MA. She was also a member of the Greater Boston United Red Feather Campaign where she took care of children of busy mothers or distraught families. Throughout her career she had worked as a nurse at Newport Hospital's Pediatric Ward and Nursery and also at Forest Farm Convalescent Home.She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth where she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. She loved spending time around Ocean Drive watching the waves and enjoyed the scenery after a snowfall. She also enjoyed spending time with all of her children and grandchildren and had a big heart and big smile and will be sadly missed by all.She is survived by her three daughters, Lorretta Kriner of Newport, RI, Lavenia Tasso and her husband Arthur of Newport, RI, Lynn Floriano and her husband Mariano of Fall River, MA, her two sons, Joseph Charles Kriner, Jr. and Mitchell Kriner and his wife Diana of Newport, RI; her son-in-law Emanual Floriano; her brother, Charles T. Dewick and his wife Anna of Tiverton, RI; several grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was looking forward to reunite with her husband and her youngest daughter, Evelee Kriner Floriano. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 4 to 7 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. Her funeral will be held at 10 am on Monday, January 28, 2013 in St Mary's Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Burial will be in St. Marys Churchyard, Portsmouth, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimers Association, RI Chapter, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence RI 02906.
