Jean Marie Hamill

Newport, RI - Jean M. (Camara) Hamill, 56, of Annadale Road, Newport, died January 5, 2014, unexpectedly and peacefully at home. Born in Newport, RI, on February 20, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Frances M. (Grande) Camara who passed May 2013. She married her high school sweetheart, the late George Michael "Mike" Hamill who passed March 2005. Jean attended Cluny School and was a 1975 Rogers High School graduate. Cluny School presented her with Citizen of the Year, she volunteered for Newport Pop Warner Football, was a Life-Time Member of the Viking Riders, she served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Lucy's Church, and also worked for Jai Alai. Jean is the mother of Shannon Dixon, Michael Hamill and his wife Kristen Carlow, and the late George Michael Hamill, Jr. She is also the beloved grandmother to Kymberlee Hamill, Shaun Conklin, Lilly Anna Hamill and the late Brooklynne Everett. She leaves behind her sisters Martha Turano and her husband Peter, Nancy Peterson and her husband Paul, Debbie Grover, Susy Anderson and her husband Charlie, and her brother Michael Camara and his wife Sheila. She is also the sister of the late Daniel Camara who passed in 1973. Jean passed on his birthday. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law Paul Hamill, many nieces, nephews, uncles, and aunts.Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 10, 2014, from 4-7pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Her funeral will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 9am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10am in St. Barnabas Church 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery, Turner and Wyatt Road, Middletown.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory payable to "COLLEGE FUND", for her three grandchildren, to 155 Wyatt Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
