Jean C. Perkins, 87, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully at home on December 25, 2024. She was the wife of the late Dr. Richard Perkins for 57 years.
Born in Hartford, CT, the only child born to the late Clifford and Ruth (Larson) Carlberg.
Jean graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Though she spent much of her life as a devoted homemaker. She also made significant contributions to her community. She found joy in coaching gymnastics at Portsmouth Middle School, inspiring countless young athletes to pursue their passions. She was a state gymnastics judge. As a dedicated volunteer and charter member at the Potter League for Animals, Jean advocated for the welfare of animals and touched the lives of many furry friends. Jean was also a 4-H Leader, a Girl Scout Leader, and a member of the Ecumenical Council. Jean loved to sing and dance and entertain.
Jean is survived by her three daughters: Wendy Perkins and her husband Daniel Gaskill, of Walls, MS, Kristine Perkins, of SC, and Deborah Perkins, of Middletown, RI. She also leaves her grandchildren; Grace Perkins, Richard Jeppesen and wife Cidney, Alexandra Jeppesen, Michael and Mina Inthasoroth-Ko, Amanda (Inthasoroth) and Ben Nichols, Richard Inthasoroth, and her great-grandchild; Gemma Nichols.
In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was preceded in death by her "adopted" son, Bouakeo Inthasoroth.
Services to celebrate Jean's life will be announced in the Spring of 2025.
