Jeanette M. Dawson, 78, of Girard Avenue, Newport, RI, died on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at South County Rehabilitation Nursing Center in North Kingstown, RI.She was the wife of the late Charles Dawson.Born in Culpepper, WV on August 1, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Walter B. and RosaLee (Redd) Stewart.Jeanette was employed at Raytheon in Portsmouth, RI as a Quality Control Specialist for 20 years before retiring. She was formerly a Nurse's Aide at Newport Hospital. Jeanette was a longtime member of Community Baptist Church in Newport, a member of its Senior Choir and a former church Treasurer. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a former Vice-President of the Newport National Little League. She is survived by her children, Charles Dawson, Jr. and his wife Amy Hopkins of Narragansett, RI, Leonard Dawson of Los Angeles, CA and Dorothea Rhodes and her husband Edward of Providence, RI; six grandchildren, Lauren Rhodes, Christopher Rhodes, Jeremy Rhodes, Amber Rhodes, Ryan Dawson and Megan McGuire; and six great-grandchildren.Her calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 5-8 pm in Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Blvd., Newport, RI.Her funeral will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 10 am in the church.Burial will follow in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016 (www.kidney.org/donate).
