Jeannette Lee Porter

Newport, RI - Jeannette Lee Thompson Porter, 91, died Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Johnson Ross Porter. Born in Walters, OK on Oct. 1, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Effie Marney Thompson. She is preceded in death by her son Judson Ross Porter. and her brothers Grover and George Thompson and her sisters Delilah Kennedy and Wanda Schilling Jeannette attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. She worked as an assistant store manager at Vandevers Department Store in Tulsa, Ok.She was an avid bridge and golf player and, after her move to Rhode Island in 1991, was a regular participant in water aerobics at the Newport Athletic Club. She palyed bridge at the King Center in Newport and attended Channing Memorial Church. Her greatest joy in life was being with her beloved family. She is survived by her daughter Judith Katherine Porter of Newport, RI .She is also survived by her grandsons Frank Ross Knapp of Darien, Ct., Micah Charles Knapp of Pepperell, Ma and Jess Ryan Porter of Dallas, Tx and her grand daughters Jeannette Lee Bessinger of Portsmouth, R.I. Jodi Jean Bass of Doylestown, Pa. and seven great-grand children. A memorial celebration of Jeannettes life will be held at Channing Memorial Church, Newport R.I. at 4 pm on Wednesday August 25, 2010 Calling hours are omitted .
