Portsmouth, RI - Jeannie LeVasseur-Powell, of East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2008 in the Newport Hospital.Born in Newport on October 13, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Joseph N. and Helen L. Underwood LeVasseur.Ms. LeVasseur worked for many years as a cook for the Head Start Program in Middletown. She was an avid Poet and enjoyed playing Scrabble as well as crocheting and knitting. Ms. LeVasseur was a sports enthusiast and a Red Sox Fan. Most importantly she was a homemaker, taking care of her family.She leaves her son William and his wife Claudia Perry Powell of Hope Valley, RI, and her daughter Renee L. and her husband Richard Smith of Colrain, MA. She also leaves four grandchildren John Paul Matthews, Nikie King, Michelle Powell and Billi-Jo Beuhring, ten great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister Helene Merrill of Newport.Ms. LeVasseur was the mother of the late Mark Powell and sister of the late Marie OConnorMemorial Services will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 5:00pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held Wednesday evening from 4:00 - 5:00pm in the funeral home
