PNCM Jeffrey A. Archer, USN, 55, of 403 Valley Road, Middletown, RI, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara Moore Archer.Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on July 6, 1956, Jeff grew up in the Ft. Wayne, IN area and joined the US Navy in 1975. That same year he married Barbara Moore and they began their career and family together. During his career in the Navy, he was assigned to several ships, including the USS John F Kennedy and USS Valdez. He received the Serviceperson of the Year award in 1993 serving as leading chief of manpower personnel Newport, RI.He retired from active duty in 1996 as a Master Chief Petty Officer SW. Not long after retirement he began a second career. For the last 15 years he has been working at SAIC in their network security department. Jeff loved music, sports, history, politics and spending time with family and friends.He is survived by his wife of 36 years Barbara Archer of Middletown, RI , his father David Archer and wife Diane of Cape Coral, FL, his mother Linda Hopper and husband Trig of New Haven, IN, his son Jeffrey Archer Jr., and his daughters Patricia Peabody and her husband Walter, and Teresa Lauth and her husband David all of Middletown, RI, his brothers Shawn Archer and Stacey Archer of the Ft. Wayne, IN area, Steven Archer of Cape Coral, FL, and his sisters Julie Henline, Sherie Leazier, Kimberly Archer, and Rhonda Foreman, all of the Ft. Wayne, IN area, and his granddaughter Olivia Peabody.Calling hours will be held Tuesday, December 13 from 4:00-7:00 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.His funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 14, at 10:00 am in Memorial Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in Middletown Cemetery, Turner and Wyatt Roads, in Middletown, RI.Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project
